Questions

About Ma'ay and the service

Is there women-only school transport in Barka?

Ma'ay is built for exactly this. Every driver is an Omani woman, and riders are women and children only, on fixed daily routes to school, college or work. We are starting in Barka, then Seeb and Muscat. The service has not launched yet, so join the waitlist on this page and we will write when we reach your area.

What is Ma'ay?

Ma'ay is a subscription transport service for women and children in Oman. Vetted Omani women drive their own cars on fixed daily routes to school, college and work. Ma'ay matches each family with a driver, collects payment in advance and pays drivers every month. It is operated by Muscat Investment Center LLC.

Where does Ma'ay operate?

We start in Barka, then Seeb, then the other wilayats of Muscat. We do not accept requests outside enabled areas, but you can leave your name, number and area on the waitlist and we will write when we reach you. We use these details only to tell you when the service starts, and we do not share them with anyone.

Who can ride with Ma'ay?

Riders are women and children only. Girls ride from school age through university, boys ride up to the end of Grade 4, and women ride on university and work runs at a fixed time every day. A mother or guardian opens one account and adds each rider to it, and every ride is with a woman driver.

Do riders share a car?

More than one rider may travel with the same driver at the same time, and Ma'ay groups them into one run ordered by distance. The limit is currently four riders on school runs and three on college and work runs. Each guardian sees her own rider's pick-up time and arrival on the map.

Is the app ready now?

Not yet. The Ma'ay app has not been released and the service has not launched. The full app will arrive for Android and iPhone when we launch in your area, in Arabic first with English inside the app. Until then, join the waitlist on this page and we will tell you.

Safety and driver vetting

How does Ma'ay vet its drivers?

Only an Omani woman aged 21 or over, with a driving licence held for 3 years or more, is accepted. The Ma'ay team reviews her ID, licence, police clearance certificate, vehicle and insurance, and interviews her. A vehicle with a model year older than 15 years is not accepted. Ma'ay tracks document expiry dates and stops new trips for a driver whose document expires.

How do I know who will drive my child?

Before the first ride you receive the driver's photo, name, car and plate, so you know who is coming and in which car. Phone numbers stay hidden until the contract is active and paid. Each day the Today screen shows the driver's name, her car and how long until she arrives, and no driver joins before Ma'ay has reviewed her documents.

Can I track the ride live?

Yes. The car appears on the map from the start of the route until the last drop-off, and its position refreshes every few seconds. You get an alert at pick-up and another at drop-off with the time, and for children the name of the person who received the child is recorded. Only Ma'ay operations and the guardians of riders on that run see the driver's location, and only during the run.

What does the SOS button do?

The SOS button is available to riders and drivers during a ride. When SOS is confirmed, the app dials 9999, Oman's emergency number, immediately and alerts Ma'ay operations at the same moment, sending the location, the trip and the people on board to operations and to the contacts you chose. Operations opens an incident record. Ma'ay is not an emergency service, so in danger call 9999 directly.

How does Ma'ay protect my data and location?

Your location is used at three moments only: the pick-up point you set, the point of your area if you join the waitlist, and your phone's position if you press SOS. Police clearance certificates are never shown to riders. You can ask to delete your data by writing to info@maay.om, and we reply within 45 days. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Payment and pricing

How do I pay for rides?

You pay in advance for the plan period: monthly, by term or for the year, not per ride. You see the contract summary and the full price before you confirm, then pay by card through a payment gateway. You never pay cash or pay the driver directly: every payment goes through Ma'ay. Card details are entered only on the gateway's page; we never store the full card number or security code.

How much does Ma'ay cost?

We do not publish a fixed amount because the price is worked out for your route, days and plan length. You see the price cap and the full total before you confirm anything, with no hidden fees: what is in the contract summary is what you pay. The period is paid in advance (or by instalments where offered), not ride by ride.

Can I cancel or get a refund?

If you cancel, nothing already paid is refunded, and the cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Refunds or credits are given only for bad service, with management approval: send a complaint through the app or to info@maay.om and supervisors investigate. If the complaint is upheld, you can choose a different driver.

What if my driver does not show up?

If a driver warns in advance that she cannot drive, the trip is offered to backup drivers first and then to others, and you see the substitute's profile before pick-up. If no substitute is found 60 minutes before the trip, we notify you and open a bad-service credit request, and an approved credit appears on your next invoice. A rider's own absence creates no compensation.

For drivers

Who can drive with Ma'ay?

An Omani woman aged 21 or over with a driving licence held for 3 years or more, who drives her own car with a model year no older than 15 years, registered and insured. The Ma'ay team reviews your ID and documents before accepting you, and no driver starts trips before that review. To ask about driving, write to info@maay.om.

What are a driver's hours?

Morning runs and the trip home from school, at times that fit the school day. A driver registers the routes she can cover, with areas, days and times, and her riders are women and children only. She can set herself available or unavailable for new requests, and her existing trips are not affected, and she gets no requests that clash with her runs.

Which documents does a driver need?

A civil ID, a driving licence, a police clearance certificate issued within the last 3 months, the vehicle registration, and an insurance policy covering the driver and passengers, plus a photo and bank details to receive her payout. Files are uploaded as JPG, PNG or PDF and kept in private storage that riders cannot see.

How are drivers paid?

Ma'ay transfers a monthly payout to the driver's bank account from subscriptions already collected from riders, after Ma'ay's commission, which is currently 10% of the subscription fee. Ma'ay does not pay from money not yet collected, and riders never pay drivers directly. The driver sees her net earnings and payout statement in the app.
